it's a cold windy day. he stood there, swaying a little, eagerly looking through the fence, partially hidden by the hedge. minutes later, a door closing sounds in the distance, and the smile disappears from his face. slowly, reluctantly, he trudges home, alone.each day passes like years. he yearns, he longs, but he doesn't quite have the courage. everyday, without fail, he stays by the fence, till the door closes. for he knew, inside lay treasure, the like of which he could only dream of.he opened his eyes, shivering. the head's on fire, the heartbeat weak. the tiniest of motions set off warning bells in his head. he tries, and tries, to get out of bed and to the fence, but he just can't do it. for the first time in many months, he didn't go. not for the next week either.the waiting, the longing, made him worse. the resolve to get well was motivated by his excursions to the fence. finally, he could go.he practically ran. despite the weakness, the feeble breath. there, he has arrived. a slight tilt of his head, and he peers through the fence. nothing.he sees not his heart's desire, nor anything else. the house seems...empty. his breath catches, his heart stops. for one terrifying moment, he fears he has lost all. and then the moment dragged on. "excuse me auntie, what happened to the family that stayed here?""oh, they shifted a few days ago. migrated to america or something.""hey boy, you alright? " "someone call the ambulance!" "no, it's ok, he's waking" "standback, let the boy breathe for goodness' sake!"eyelids fluttered. the vision cleared, and he looked up into a mirage. the only thing that has occupied his mind for so long, that has taken up all his heart and soul. and that thing was looking at him with so much concern and care. he was touched, and miraculously happy."are you alright?"he mumbles an answer, suddenly shy. the curls tumbling down, framing a beautiful face. big, doll eyes, a sharp nose, small mouth. perfect. it was like a dream come true.her breath caught. she blinks twice, and he could almost count her eyelashes. he lifts a trembling hand and caresses her face gently. the tears start falling from her eyes. she holds her arms out, an invitation into her embrace. without hesitation, he threw himself into her arms. loving, caring and warm arms."i love you, mum"
